JUSTICE NETWORK HONORS LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS DURING NATIONAL POLICE WEEK

-- Network will feature TOP COPS Award, Candlelight Vigil and Memorial Service throughout the week –

(Atlanta, GA – May 7, 2015   – Justice Network, the free over-the-air multicast television network, will celebrate and honor law enforcement officers across the country beginning Monday, May 11 during National Police Week.

During the weeklong commemoration in conjunction with the National Association of Police Organizations (NAPO), the Justice Network will showcase five TOP COP stories, as honored by NAPO at the organization’s annual awards ceremony. These videos will be shared on the Justice Network’s website and social platforms and promoted on the network.  Police officers from the following departments will be honored:  Chicago Police Department, Indianapolis Metro Police Department, New York Police Department, Corpus Christie Police Department, and Los Angeles Police Department.

  Other highlights during the week of May 11th include:

  • A Candle Light Vigil, posted to social media on Wednesday evening, in conjunction with National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund.
  • A 5 minute roll call of all fallen officers on Friday during National Peace Officers Memorial Day, listing the names of law enforcement officers who lost their lives in 2014.   Working in conjunction with the Fraternal Order of Police, Justice Network will air this roll call on the network and social media throughout the day.
  • A special commemoration of two fallen troopers who have been featured in some episodes of Justice Network’s Alaska State Troopers, airing on the network throughout the week.
  • A special web feature honoring positive acts among law enforcement officials and a final culmination to National Police Week on Saturday.

Since 1994, NAPO has presented the TOP COPS Awards Ceremony.  These awards pay tribute to federal, state, county, tribal and local law enforcement officers across the country for actions above and beyond the call of duty.  These TOP COPS are nominated by fellow officers and an independent committee selects one TOP COP case from each of the 50 states and officers from the top ten cases are selected as the TOP COP Award Winner.
