Terrified, the young girl hid in her bedroom while her mother was attacked and stabbed to death. Investigators had a wealth of evidence: shoe impressions, distinctive blood drops, and the killer’s DNA. What they didn’t have was a basis for comparison.

The gunman opened fire as the family of four entered their home, killing two and wounding the others. He’d pulled open a few drawers to make it look like a robbery, but the scene was clearly staged. When police pieced together the clues, they discovered an unlikely suspect and a carefully orchestrated plot.

The killer obviously spent a great deal of time at the scene, wiping away his fingerprints and obscuring shoe impressions he’d tracked through blood trails on the floor. But in the process, he created new evidence which was just as incriminating.

It was classic “overkill.” The woman floating in the harbor of an upscale yacht club had been stabbed more than 50 times. Her ex-husband and daughter are missing, and investigators turn to forensic science to determine if they’re searching for victims... or perpetrators.

A state park employee is murdered in the park office in the middle of the afternoon. There’s a wealth of evidence at the scene, but it doesn’t implicate the prime suspect, it clears him. Six years -- and 600 leads -- later, advances in DNA technology enable investigators to identify and convict the killer.

Additional clues are found, all pointing to the young girl’s father as her killer, until finally, the child’s body is found, wrapped in a bag with her father’s prints all over it.

A russian woman is found nude and dead in the bathtub in her toronto apartment. Homicide detectives process the apartment, and transport the woman to the medical examiner’s office. An autopsy is performed, and a forensic odontologist is brought in, as teeth marks were discovered on the woman’s body. The teeth marks were analyzed, and samples were taken. The woman appeared to have several boyfriends, all of whom were questioned, and had teeth molds made to attempt to match to the bite marks on the woman’s body. A perfect match was found, the only evidence linking the man to the murder.

Charities lavished gifts on Gypsy Lee Blanchard, a sympathetic young girl confined to a wheelchair. The Make-a-wish foundation sent her on trips and Habitat for Humanity built her a home. But it all came to end when her mother was found murdered and Gypsy went missing, leaving her wheelchair behind. As the murder investigation got underway the local Sheriff reported “Things aren’t exactly what they seemed to be”.

Ohio v. Erica Stefanko. In a tale of jealousy, betrayal and revenge, 25-year old Ashley Biggs, a single mom and pizza delivery driver, was murdered on a late night run for Dominos. Police arrested her former boyfriend Chad Cobb, saying he killed her over a bitter custody dispute involving their seven-year old daughter. For eight years, Cobb had refused to tell police who had helped him lure Ashley to her death, protecting his then-wife Erica Stefanko. But once he learned that Erica had become romantically involved with his best friend and that she was allegedly abusing his daughter, Cobb revealed Erica’s role in the murder.
